Kurram victims receive compensation

Compensation cheques were distributed among the families of 37 people who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in the Kurram tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Sheraz Bacha, the coordinator of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Kurram district, the process of distributing cheques to the affected families is underway.

On November 21, 2024, 37 people were killed in a terrorist attack on a convoy in Parachinar. The families of these martyrs have received aid cheques worth Rs37 million.

Deputy Commissioner Kurram, Ashfaq Ahmed, distributed the compensation cheques to the affected families at the Governor’s Cottage in Parachinar.

Additionally, the process of compensating the owners of vehicles and goods damaged in the attack is underway.

Efforts to demolish fortified bunkers are also underway.

He said that after completing the necessary documents, all affected individuals would receive compensation, and those who suffered damage to their vehicles and goods would also receive assistance. A survey of all affected individuals, including those in Bagan, is currently in process.

On the other hand, the demolition of bunkers belonging to rival factions in Upper and Lower Kurram is progressing in accordance with the peace accord.

On Friday an additional 10 bunkers have been demolished.

Tehsildar Parachinar Naseer Abbas reported that a total of 50 bunkers have been dismantled so far, and efforts are on to demolish more. Roads in Kurram district have been closed for over 4.5 months, leaving residents stranded and without sufficient food and medicines.

Member Provincial Assembly, Ali Hadi Irfani has stated that overseas workers and students are trapped in the area, and it is crucial to reopen transportation routes immediately to prevent further suffering due to a lack of medical treatment and food.

He also urged the government to announce an emergency relief package for the besieged population of 500,000 people.

He emphasized that the government is responsible for protecting the lives and property of its citizens.
